Implementation of scheme
The ESI Scheme was first implemented in the country in Kanpur & Delhi Centre on 24.02.1952. It was implemented at Nagpur centre of the erstwhile C.P. and Berar Province on 11.07.1954, initially administered from Kanpur, U.P. Later on, the ESI Scheme was introduced in various Districts of Vidarbha Region.
As on date, the Scheme is introduced in whole Vidarbha area viz. Nagpur, Akola, Buldhana, Gondia, Amravati, Chandrapur, Wardha, Yavatmal, Bhandara, Washim & Gadchiroli.
The SRO is housed in its own building at Ganeshpeth, Nagpur, since 20.11.1974 and, in a restructured and renovated building with all modern amenities and corporate look since 20th May 2011.
Medical Benefits :
Medical Benefits envisaged under the Scheme is administered through the Government of Maharashtra by the Commissioner, ESI Scheme situated at ESIC, Panchdeep Bhavan, Lower Parel, Mumbai.
Full Medical care comprising out-patient services, specialist services and hospital services have been provided under the scheme through service dispensaries, diagnostic centers and ESIS Hospital under this Sub Region.
At present one Hospital is functional at Somwaripeth, Nagpur run by State Government. The bed capacity of the Hospital is 200 and at present, operational bed is 130. The average bed occupancy is 60%.
There are 17 dispensaries at various locations in SRO Nagpur region area under the control of Administrative Medical Officer, ESIS, Government of Maharashtra, Nagpur of which 13 dispensaries are functioning at Nagpur Dist. and other 4 are located at Districts namely at Amravati, Akola, Chandrapur, Hinganghat.
At present, 8 Dispensary-cum-Branch Offices namely, Gondia, Yavatmal, Korpana, Wardha, Washim, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Khamgaon have been operational. These DCBOs will provide the Cash Benefits and Primary Medical Benefits under one Umbrella. Total 9 Branch Offices namely Sadar, Hingna Road, Bagadganj, Model Mills, Butibori, Hinganghat, Chandrapur, Amravati, Akola & 2 pay offices namely Kalmeshwar & Kamptee have been operational. These BOs will provides the Cash Benefits to the IPs.
